Nobody is born composed

Today's lesson

"He's just got ice in his veins." No, he doesn't. He's got a routine, and he's run it a few thousand times.

The mistake most athletes make is treating mental toughness as a personality trait — something you either got or you didn't. Believe that and there's no reason to train it, so you don't, so you don't have it, which confirms what you believed in the first place.

Treat it as a skill and everything changes. Skills have inputs. Skills have reps. Skills get better on a schedule.

Today's challenge

Five minutes: two minutes of breathing, two minutes rehearsing the hard version of your next game in your head, one minute writing down what you controlled well today.

Today's question

If mental toughness is a skill, what does your training week actually look like for it?

Today's tip

Do the breathing when you're calm, not when you're stressed. You're building the tool before you need it.

Remember

You don't need to feel motivated to do five minutes.
